FAMILY HEALTH LAW™
About The Firm

Lisa Feldstein Law Office Professional Corporation is a health law firm that focuses on serving family members as they interact with the health care system as caregivers, decision-makers and advocates. We call our niche Family Health Law™.

Our primary mission is to serve the family – people trying to build families through assisted reproduction, people trying to access care and make decisions for family members, and people trying to manage health-related legal issues that have arisen within their family.

In 2022 we won a Precedent Innovation Award for our Kinkeeper™ platform for family caregivers.

Our Mission

We help people create and protect their families. We navigate, advocate and empower. We aim to get results for clients without
incurring the time, expense and stress of going to court. We provide opinions on proposed legislation and take on novel cases. We become knowledgeable about unique areas of law, and write about emerging developments. We educate the public because we believe health law information should be available for everyone. We are entrusted with deeply personal legal problems and we take that responsibility very seriously. We change lives.

We know that if you are contacting us, you are going through a stressful time. Our goal is to take away the worrying with respect to the law. We will explain the legal issues and your options in plain English. We won’t talk to you using legal mumbo jumbo.

Our Values

Lisa's Biography & Background

My career has always been focused on health law. It is the perfect marriage of my interest in law and bioethics.

I studied psychology at the University of Guelph. When I graduated from Osgoode Hall Law School in 2010 I worked at a Toronto health law firm providing advice to hospitals and other health care institutions. Along the way I also worked at two teaching hospitals in the areas of research ethics and mental health law.

My legal career has taken me to various courts and tribunals. I have advocated for clients before the Consent and Capacity Board, the Health Services Appeal and Review Board, the Health Professions Appeal and Review Board, the Superior Court of Justice and the Ontario Court of Justice. I believe strongly in the power of mediation and have acted as a mediator at the Ontario Superior Court of Justice, Small Claims Division.

I am always dreaming up new ways to incorporate technology or access to justice initiatives at our firm. I'm thrilled that we now offer online courses, but that's just the tip of the iceberg!

In addition to practicing law, I love to teach. I taught negotiation at Osgoode Hall Law School for six years.  I have been an Adjunct Professor at York University since 2016 (I teach Health Care Law).

When time permits, I also volunteer. In the past few years I served as a director of a Toronto charity that assists people with vision impairments; and I sat on the Ontario Bar Association health law executive. I currently act as an advisor to Prenatal Screening Ontario and am a frequent judge of law school mooting and negotiation competitions.

I regularly speak to the media about the latest health law developments. You can click on Media and Speaking & Writing to learn more about my media appearances, presentations and publications.

In 2015 I won a Precedent Setter Award, which recognizes lawyers who have shown excellence and leadership in their early years of practice. I was also humbled to win a 2014 Clawbie (Canadian Law Blog Awards)
for best practitioner blog. I strive to be worthy of these awards every day.

How We Work

If you are contacting us, you likely have plenty to worry about.  Our goal is to at least take away the worrying with respect to the law. We will explain things to you in plain English and translate legalese where it is used.

We also rely on our mediation and negotiation training to avoid damaging relationships, or provoking retaliation, while striving to achieve your goals. We understand the expense and time commitment of being an advocate or family caregiver, or trying to have a baby with the assistance of a fertility clinic. We therefore offer flexible office hours and methods of communication. If you would like to correspond by videoconference or text message, just ask!

If you are contacting our firm, you have enough to worry
about already...
